Channa masala/Chickpeas curry

Channa masala is a common Vegetarian dish prepared with chickpeas.It goes awesome with chapati,pooris and even rice.Let's see how to make this simple Channa Masala recipe.

Ingredients



Chickpeas-1 1/2 cup
Onion-1 finely chopped
Tomato-3 medium size (pureed)
Turmeric powder-1 tsp
Red chilli powder-4 tsp
Coriander powder-1 tblspn
Garam masala powder-1 tsp
Cumin seeds-1 tsp
Ginger Garlic paste-1 tblspn
Tomato sauce-1 tblspn
Salt to taste
Sugar-1 tsp
Oil-2 tblspn
Coriander leaves - finely Chopped 



Method





  • Soak the Chickpeas in water for overnight or atleast for 8 hours. 
  • Pressure cook them by adding enough water with little salt for 3 to 4 whistles or until it become soft. 


  • In a pan,add oil and add bay leaf,cinnamon,cloves and cumin seeds.

  • Add the onions and saute them until it becomes light brown color .

  • Add in the ginger garlic paste and saute them until raw smell goes. 

  • Add in the spices turmeric powder, red chilli powder ,coriander powder ,garam masala powder and saute them well in the oil.
 
  • Add in the tomato puree and cook them until oil separates from the sides of the pan 

  • Add the tomato sauce(gives you a nice taste)  and mix well.

  • Add in sugar and salt .

  • Take some cooked chickpeas around 20  and mash it well.You can either mash it using masher or in blender. 


  • Add the mashed chickepeas and mix well 

 
  • Add the cooked chickpeas along with the water and combine well with the masala. Add required water and boil it.

  • Cover and simmer the gravy until oil floats on top. 

.
  • Spicy Channa Masala is ready.Garnish it with coriander leaves . 

  • Serve hot with chappathi,puri or battura.


Notes.



  • You can skip adding tomato ketchup but it will give a nice taste. 
  • Adding kashmiri Red chilli powder or paprika gives a nice red color to the gravy.
